Y13 Careers Provision and Timeline

Mid Sept –Mid Oct Seriously consider future career path and try to source high quality work experience in this area.Submit details of the work experience placement
you have sourced by end of November at the latest.Parental offers for other pupils greatly appreciated.
Nov – May Fortnightly careers classes to assist the development of Personal Career Plans. Detailed research university courses / Higher Level Apprenticeships.
Parental help very beneficial.
Mid January Booking opens for University Open Days. Limited places.
Mon 29th January– Fri 2nd February Work Experience Week for all Y13 pupils in a relevant professional placement carrying out a mini project similar to those activities carried
out in business/ profession.
Easter holidays/ June after AS exams/ Summer holidays Families might use this time to tour daughter’s short list of universities. Pupils who change their mind after work experience should do extra
work experience in their new career area and arrange it themselves for holiday periods.
End April Pupils submit 1st draft of UCAS Personal Statement for marking. This means they have decided on course area.
June after AS Exams Y13 pupils may come into school to discuss their 1st draft of UCAS Personal Statement & course choice with Careers Teacher.
June, July Open Days, Summer Schools and University Taster Events. Pupils source and book these online well in advance (January). Places are limited.
July / August -Finalize university and course choices-Work hard for UKCAT Test and sit it (if required for university course)-Partake in summer schemes and
if possible do something challenging and different, perhaps in an under developed country.

 

– Work on UCAS Personal Statement

The main role of the Careers Department Administrator is (a) to organise Work Experience Placements also issuing insurance / assessment forms (b) organising
a variety of work related learning events(c) organize mock interviews. Contact about these type of queries /concerns should be made by telephoning
the CR School Office after October half term.

September & October One period class time per week with Careers Staff. University application forms. UCAS and interview skills training. For Non UCAS pupils research
into Higher Level Appenticeships and employment, CVs. UCAS / Non UCAS interview skills training and mock interviews.
Third Week in September  First deadline for submission of UCAS forms – CUKAS, Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary, Oxford & Cambridge
Last Week in September Second deadline for submission of UCAS forms – Law, Teaching, Social work, Optometry, Dietetics, Psychology, Languages in Scottish Universities,
Allied Health Professions ; Speech Therapy, Physiotherapy, OT, Orthoptics.
Second Week in October Final deadline for ALL UCAS forms ie-Nursing, Engineering, Business, Straight subjects : English, Geography, History, Biological Sciences
1st November approx BMAT Exam etc for those who need to do it.
First Week in November Mock Interview Event : 4pm – 8.30pmAll pupils are encouraged to avail of an individual interview focussed on their area of interest on UCAS
Form / Employment Form.
Early November CAO Application Talk. Pupils may then complete application forms for

Republic of
Ireland. Form very simple – no personal statement & you can apply for 20 courses of any kind. No reference required.

November- April Universities consider applications, call students for interview, make offers.
Jan – March -May use 5th application space on UCAS Form
January Submit Art applications route B
Mid February – approx 5th April Pupils consider all university offers and make first choice (CF) and second/ back up choice (CI). This should NOT BE DONE without prior discussion with careers staff.
March / April Finance Talk & distribution of forms for student loans, grants and tuition fees. UCAS Extra opens–this is an early Clearing system eg.
for pupils with no offers.
Early June Second deadline for CF & CI if a late offer has been received.
Approx 18thAugust A2 Results. Guidance and help to secure a place in desired institution. Universities will confirm your place if you meet their offer conditions.If
rejected by CF and CI you enter Clearing. Pupils must NOT be on holiday at this time- universities like to work with the student, not a representative.
