New Pupil Frequently Asked Questions Coleraine Grammar School

Your Year 8 class may have some pupils you already know and you will make plenty of new friends very quickly in class and in activities. 

All pupils will follow the same curriculum for 3 years and then make some choices in what is studied for GCSE. At A Level (post 16) pupils and parents choose their subjects with their career and university in mind. 

There will be 26 boys and girls in each first year class and 20 pupils in some practical classes. 

Year 8 pupils, boys and girls, will be based on the Lodge Road campus in September 2016. 

There are over 25 sports, clubs and societies currently operating in the two schools; everything is listed in the Transfer 2016 book. The list includes choirs, orchestras, drama, rugby, hockey, rowing, athletics, cricket, swimming and cross-country. See you website link to our Sports and Clubs

After consideration of claims for Special Circumstances and Special Provision, 156 places in Year 8 will be allocated to pupils on the basis of rank order of their respective scores in the Common Entrance Assessment (CEA) provided by the Association for Quality Education (AQE); those achieving higher scores being allocated places before those who have scored less. It is impossible to answer this accurately. A mark of 95-100 is our best estimate.

The blazer incorporates CHS green and CAI blue, with the new crest emblazoned upon the pocket.
