Dear Parent/Guardian
The Department for Employment and Learning’s Careers Service would like to invite you to an open afternoon for the parents/guardians of Year 13 pupils.
The event will take place in Coleraine Library, Queen Street, Coleraine BT52 1BE on Wednesday 1st June 2016 from 4.00pm to 6.00pm. Year
13 pupils are also invited to attend with you.
The Careers Service provides an impartial, all-age careers information, advice and guidance service to help young people and adults make informed choices
about their future career paths. Careers Advisers are professionally qualified and deliver services within all local schools.
Many pupils will return to school after the summer break and, early in Year 14, make a UCAS application for a full time degree. This is a very well
known pathway for progression. Other options may not be so well known so we felt it might be useful for parents and pupils to be able to access
information about alternatives. Therefore we are running this event in order to provide you with an opportunity to find out more about –
- Part time degree options and related finance
- Foundation Degrees
- Distance Learning Degrees
- Higher National Diplomas and Certificates
- Higher Level Apprenticeships
- Voluntary Work
- Getting a job
To advise on these topics we have invited representatives from local organisations and educational institutions. They, and ourselves, will be available
on a drop-in basis between 4 – 6pm on 1st June. We hope you can attend and look forward to meeting you then.
Yours faithfully,
Hilary Carton – Careers Adviser
Leanne Quigley – Careers Adviser
Steve Webb – Careers Adviser
Joanne McKinney – Unit Manager
