Folgaria Ski Trip Report
After a 4am departure from the quad we flew into Verona airport before a 2 hour transfer to our resort with a stop off en route for
our first taste of Italian pizza.
On the first morning our pupils were split into groups depending upon ski experience. Folgaria was the perfect place for our beginners to learn
the basics with some beautiful long blue and green runs. For the more adventurous skiers there were a number of challenging black and red slopes
which kept things entertaining. Luckily, we had mix of weather throughout the week so pupils could experience skiing in sunny climes as well
as snowy – blizzard like conditions. As always the ski instructors were excellent; they were friendly, encouraging, great fun to be around
and helped develop the skills of all our pupils.
In the evening, after feasting on the hotel’s 4 course dinner the après ski activities organised by Mrs Reid ensured that all pupils were kept
entertained. Table quiz’s, an opportunity for some shopping in picturesque Folgaria Town, cinema trips, tubing (memories of Dr Frizelle, Mr
Patterson and Mrs Reid hurtling down an icy slope crushed in a rubber ring will forever be emblazoned upon our minds)Dance moves at the disco
will also live long in the memory.
The most incredible part of the trip, from the teacher’s perspective, was the personal development of the pupils. The instructors commented that
they had never seen another group of young school pupils taking such care of each other on the mountain, and we received compliments about
their behaviour throughout the week from the ski representatives and the hotel owners. Our pupils ordered and expressed gratitude for their
food in Italian and showed courtesy to others around them at all times. They were a credit to CGS!
Thanks must go to all the pupils and staff who made the trip enjoyable.
