Swim Ulster Schools Cup & Championships 2016
This is secondary school gala for yrs 8 – 14.
In the Junior Section (combined yrs8-10) Coleraine Grammar School had 3 swimmers in this section – all from year 8 and they performed well with PBs in
a very large field of competitors (in some of the events there were over 150 competitors).
In the Intermediate section (combined yrs 11&12) Coleraine Grammar had 8 swimmers. Four girls and four boys. The girls relay team swam really well
to get a bronze medal in the medley relay and came 5th in the freestyle relay.
In the individual events one of our Year 11s was the only girl to make a final and went on to get a silver medal when she came 2nd in the girls
100m breaststroke. She has now also qualified to represent Ulster Schools at the Irish Interprovincial competition in Dublin next May.
The intermediate boys relay team consisting of three year 8 and 9 pupils filled spaces when at late notice the rest of the relay team were unable to attend
the gala due to sickness). Despite the drafting in of these very young swimmers to this 15/16yrs age category the team performed very well and came
a very commendable 6th and 7th respectively in their 2 relay events.
In the individual events one of our intermediate male swimmers narrowly missed the finals coming in 13th and 17th.
Well done to all medallists, finalists and swimmers.
