Local businessman helps Coleraine Grammar School Rowing
Mr Wilbur Mitchell of Mitchell Car and Body Repair turned his expertise from repainting damaged cars to repainting the oars used by Coleraine Grammar
School.
As rowing coach Jeremy Johnston explained, when the Girls High school amalgamated with Coleraine Academical Institution to form the Grammar School
new rowing colours were required. Part of the rules of rowing is the fact that oar colours must match the colours worn by the athletes. This required
Wilbur and his team to step up with a very generous act of sponsorship and paint the oars in the new colours of green with a red band.
The athletes who attended Mr Mitchell’s business on the Castleroe Road loved the new colours and happily posed in the sunshine for a photograph with
some of the men who had toiled over this somewhat different painting challenge.
