RIBI Technology Tournament Success

A report on our RIBI Technology Success

Coleraine Grammar School had a very successful day at the first annual RIBI Technology Tournament held in Coleraine. Coleraine Grammar Year 12 team
took 1st place, our Year 11 team took 2nd place and our Year 13 team took 3rd place in the competition!
Also, our Year 10 produced a flawless performance and were the highest ranked Key Stage 3 team.
The event was kindly hosted at Loreto College on Thursday 2nd March 2017. We had six strong teams from all three key stages representing the school
from Physics and Technology. The brief was simple but rigorous. The junior teams had to design and build a battery powered vehicle that could push
a load of debris through a tunnel and along a half-pipe tube. The intermediate teams had to do the same but also reverse their vehicle back to
the start. The seniors had the further challenge of dragging the debris back with them.
All teams stayed focused on the task at hand and their tenacity paid off. Their design portfolios were assessed as well as the performance of their
vehicles. If fact, after a glitch in their time trial, the winning team requested a second chance and produced a flawless performance. The competition
was very tight.
All three teams have been invited to take part in the regional finals in Ulster University, Jordanstown in June.
Congratulations should also go to the rest of the pupils who competed. All teams gave it their all and produced excellent solutions.
