Court room success for Coleraine Grammar.
The CGS ‘Magistrates’ Court Mock Trial Team’ have qualified for the UK finals after they won the Northern Ireland heat of the long running competition
at Antrim Magistrates Court, organised by the Citizenship Foundation.
The team, made up of 11 Year 10 pupils, took on the roles of Barristers, Magistrates, Witnesses, Defendant, Usher and Legal Advisor. They were commended
for their excellence in all areas by the judges.
The success is all the more commendable as it is the School’s first year in the competition. They look forward to competing in Birmingham in June in
the UK Finals.
Headmaster, Dr David Carruthers, stated that the result was ‘excellent’ and ‘just reward for the hours of preparation put in by all involved.’ He went
on ‘It also illustrates how education extends beyond the traditional classroom environment, developing confidence and other life skills. The whole
school community wish the pupils and staff well for Birmingham.’
