This weekend, the elite of Irish rowing gathered in Cork to compete at the Irish Rowing Championships 2018. What this CGS team of 21 rowers achieved was
outstanding.
Our year 12 lady sculler won a Championship of Ireland pennant last achieved by CAI rowers in 1990.
Our year 14 boy got through to the J18 single scull semi final just missing out on the final and achieved a 7th place overall, later he joined his year
13 rowing partner and through nerve jangling heats and semi finals they fought the best in Ireland ultimately finishing 5th.
Our year 11 girl won gold in the J15 single. The girls and boys sixteen eights became the fourth and fifth fastest sixteen eights in Ireland with the boys
storming to a final, winning the semifinal in thrilling fashion.
Our year 9 boy and girl single scullers both narrowly missed out on gold, finishing in silver medal positions.
All represented the school and their families with maturity beyond their years both when dealing with success and what they considered disappointment as
they had such high expectations. It was tremendous to see so many travelling supporters and family members. All that remains is to thank all the assistant
coaches volunteers who made this weekend possible.
Mr Johnston.
