After a lapse of over forty years the Ulster Branch of Rowing Ireland in conjunction with Craigavon Council we’re delighted to stage Craigavon Regatta
2018. As befitting an Ulster event all the Ulster Rowing Clubs were represented. In straight sunshine and over clear blue skies the stage was set
for a day of tremendous racing and for many heading away on holidays this was to be the last event of the season, what a way to finish. Hosts of
young boys and girls from all clubs took to the water in their first ever single scull events some won, most didn’t and a few availed of a cooling
dip in Craigavon lake.
Proud parents picnicked on the bank as their children battled for medals on the water and veteran rowers competed no doubt wishing they could turn
the clock of time back!
The Lord Mayor of Armagh city, Banbridge and Craigavon Councillor Julie Flaherty spent the day chatting to rowers, supporters and presenting medals
to the fortunate winning crews.
Coleraine Grammar School enjoyed a real gold rush of success with the older crews of junior 18 boys and girls eights both winning in convincing
fashion the boys also won the club quadruple scull, the junior 16 quadruple scull and the junior 14 double scull. The girls not to be outdone won
the junior 18 double scull junior 16 single scull, junior 16 quadruple scull and junior 14 quadruple scull. Many other CGS crews both boys and
girls made the A finals and finished in silver and bronze positions
A big thank you to the Ulster Branch for an excellent event and as always the CGS volunteers who make days like this possible.
