Dr Carruthers was delighted to congratulate our Year 13 pupil who, following recent Irish rowing trials, has been preselected as one of only two girls to represent Ireland at the forth coming Junior World Rowing Championships in Tokyo this summer.
This talented athlete commenced her rowing career exactly three years ago and her rise in the sport has been nothing short of meteoric.
Last season she became the Junior Irish Rowing Champion and Under 23 Irish Schools’ Champion in the single scull. In the summer she competed at European level and accompanied by her double sculls partner won a well-deserved bronze medal.
What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that this young lady is still only sixteen years of age. I doubt if any Coleraine Grammar School pupil will ever travel further to represent her school and her country.
We wish her well for the season ahead.
