On Saturday 28th January, Year 13 and 14 pupils competed in the annual Bar Mock Trial competition organised by ‘Young Citizens’ at the Royal Courts of Justice, Belfast.
After a few weeks’ intensive preparations, our barristers, witnesses, clerks and ushers stepped into the courtrooms. The team had to both prosecute and defend cases with a cast of dubious characters or complete innocents, depending on your point of view. The good news is that if our team was prosecuting – it was a guilty verdict and if they were defending – you walked free! As always the standard was very high and our pupils were praised for the high standard of their advocacy and credibility as witnesses by retired High Court Judge, Sir Declan Morgan.
Well done to the eventual winners, St. Dominic’s Grammar School for Girls.
