CGS Medal Success at Carlow Rowing Regatta

Last weekend 23 junior members of the rowing club travelled to compete at Carlow Regatta the premier junior regatta in Ireland. They faced crews
from Shandon, Muckross, Waterford ,Tralee, Galway, Enniskillen ,Dublin, Fermoy, Castleconnell and Cork.

Such is the dedication of the travelling parents and assistant coaches that they plotted and planned the next day’s racing in Carlow rowing club
right into the early hours of the morning. I was absolutely delighted with the success we enjoyed particularly for those boys and girls winning
their first ever medals. Congratulations!

For the record, we won the junior 14 quadruple sculls boys and girls, the junior 15 double sculls boys and girls, junior 15 boys scull and junior
15 girls eight.

Rowing is so much more than just medals nearly every race has a story with equal amounts of tears and laughter.

Not everyone wins, which is why medals are cherished, at 14 years old you don’t understand character building and resilience you just want a medal
yesterday I realised a had a group of tough wee cookies who faced disappointment and will bounce back tougher and stronger.

A big thank you to the organisers who ran such a friendly regatta in straight sunshine also the parents and assistant coaches made the day possible.

Mr Johnston (Rowing Coach)
