After no Bath Cup in the London Olympic Park in 2021 due to Covid the competition returned as strong as ever last week when 6 girls and 5 boys from CGS travelled to London to attend both the Whitgift Invitational at the private school in Croydon and the Bath Cup and Otter Medley, UK wide competition, in the Olympic Park.
At the Whitgift Invitational both teams had some great individual and relay swims with many personal best times being recorded. The boys’ team came 4th overall only 2 points away from coming 2nd and the girls’ team came 5th just 4 points away from 2nd place. It was a very close and exciting gala and the swimmers enjoyed food and the hospitality from the host school.
The next morning everyone travelled to the 2012 Olympic Pool for the biggest school swimming event in the UK, with all the top schools like Eton, Harrow and Benenden attending.
The format is all based on U19 freestyle and medley relays. The very young girls’ team came a very respectable 36th out of 66 in the freestyle and 45th in the medley. All team members swam personal best times on the day and over the next 3 to 4 years this team will only get faster and stronger.
The boys achieved the best results of any CGS male team ever. They recorded the fastest times in both relays of any previous CGS team and were ranked highest ever coming 20th out of 64 in the freestyle relay and 19th in the medley relay missing the A finals in both events by 4secs and 3seconds respectively. Every member of the male team also achieved personal best LC times.
Everyone is already looking forward to next year when hopefully all swimmers can return with a chance of making the finals.
